Make a Shirt for the Clothesline Project!

The Clothesline Project is a visual display of shirts with messages and illustrations that have been designed by survivors of violence (or by a survivor’s loved ones). During the public display, the shirts are hung shoulder to shoulder on a clothesline to raise the public’s awareness about violence. Each shirt is decorated to represent a particular survivor’s experience.

According to the national organization, The Clothesline Project has four main objectives.
1. To bear witness to the experiences of survivors.
2. To help with the healing process for survivors or their loved ones.
3. To educate, document and raise awareness about violence in our community.
4. To provide a nationwide network of support, encouragement and information.

Sometimes we hear people say, “I want to make a shirt….but I am not artistic or creative!!”. It is important to know that you do NOT need any specific artistic skill in order to make a shirt. The goal of the shirt making sessions is to provide a safe, comforting and healing environment where survivors (and their loved ones) can document their experiences, feelings or thoughts.

We will be hosting 6 T-Shirt Making Sessions throughout the month of April. All materials will be provided and Victim Advocates will be present at every session.
