Men who identify as feminist or pro-feminist have a history of working alongside women in feminist movements to decrease gender-based violence and oppression. While it is important to have male allies in these movements, their presence in women’s “safe spaces” and the well-intentioned work they have done alongside women has sometimes led to harm or further marginalization of women. This presentation summarizes interviews with women who have worked with men in movements to end sexist violence and oppression. We will explore the challenges and successes of working with men as well as strategies for improving accountability.
